OCTOBERODE

From teeny tiny pumpkins in the waning Autumn light,

To scarecrows smiling welcome as they rustle into night,

A goblet full of eyeballs and a pair of magic wands,

A fading-summer corner, with its almost-slumber fronds

Ghostly hands to guard the candy,

A bright wreath upon the door

And the bright anticipation for what Autumn has in store.

Caro did all of our decorating---all of it, from choosing and buying and unearthing from past years, to polishing and dusting and arranging everything.
And in this first almost-week's-worth of October, I hope you're all feeling the wonder of the season!

  1. I've never been very fond of Halloween...I think it's because I have so much in life that is scary, I don't need a holiday to celebrate it! But, I know it is fun for the kids! Loved the decor!

  2. Ah, good that you told us Caro did the decorating, because I was gonna accuse you of reverting to childhood. Come to think of it, we never have made it past it, have we? And hope never to because then we might have to miss too much fun!

  3. Love your decorating, Rachel (especially that pretty wreath on the door) ... and loved your poem, too. Your talents will never cease to amaze me.

  4. Hi Rachel, I am smiling just looking at the festive decorations in your home. Caro did an outstanding job. Especially the dusting part. HA! I like house cleaning and the joy of the results of hard work...EXCEPT for dusting.

Happy fall and Halloween which will be here before we know it. I have been busy as anything doing the same thing. I will share it all soon.
    Hugs, Jeanne

  5. Happy October to all of you, and a special Happy Thanksgiving to you, Bev, and to all our Canadian neighbors.

It slips up on me every year, and I miss giving out greetings til it's late.

I'd love to hear about yours, Bev---would you care to Guest Post a bit about it?

  6. Well I appreciate your very generous offer Rachel but I will decline as we are battling colds here and I think it would be a bit too much to take on..thanks though.
