CHOCOLATE BLISS

Kisses, move over; Cadbury’s---look out.

These new Hershey’s eggs ARE blissful---the most meltingly creamy chocolate you ever put in your mouth.

They’re like no other candy I’ve ever tasted; Godiva and all the rest are far behind for taste and texture---these are silken on the tongue, deliquescing gently until the chocolate “meltaway center” just floods your senses.

The only chocolate I can remember as tasting better is when a dear friend returned from a mission trip to Africa, coming home via Belgium.    A great group of us from the churches in our area went to the airport to meet her, and after we all hugged hello, she walked around the entire group again, bringing out little wrapped chocolates from her big net shoulder-bag.

We each accepted the little golden nugget and as if by ritual, we waited until the last person had received her chocolate, then we unwrapped them and all put them into our mouths in a kind of unspoken sweet Communion, born of the spirit of that moment.

The taste and the feeling and the sweetness of the welcoming home are still a vivid, wonderful memory of that impromptu little rite among friends.

  1. I love Easter candy. My mother is Dutch so I grew up eating Dutch chocolates. I think I've become a bit of a chocolate snob because of it! Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.

  3. Hi Rachel, Isn't it funny how a sweet candy or dessert just hangs on in your mind all your life. The story of your chocolate memory is lovely. I am imagining all of you opening the sweetest gift and all saying mmmmmmm together. Smile. It was probably Belgium chocolate because I know it is delicious. Meeting a church member at the airport is a wonderful thing to do. Life has changed at the airport. Now you get your bags and wait on the sidewalk as your ride drives by to get you. Sad isn't it?

Have a wonderful weekend with loved ones Rachel.
    Love, Jeanne

  4. I gave up chocolate for Lent. Which means that I won't have any of these in the house until AFTER Easter - when they go on sale. Woo-hoo! I love milk chocolate. I've 'educated my palate' to be able to appreciate dark chocolate, but when I crave chocolate, I really mean MILK. My favorite chocolate is English Cadbury - really rich and milky and melty. Yum.

  7. Thanks for stopping by Acorn Hollow. I love your reference to it....the woodland creatures using "forest instruments." That's just what I was hoping for....a little bit of something whimsical. I am going to try these eggies if I can find them. I love chocolate....Godiva is my fave so these must be delicious!
