DUMPLIN'S, REDUX

We're under the Blue Cloud which covers half the country right now, and if that doesn't call for something simmering on the stove---what DOES?

I went looking back for the old family Chicken and Dumplin's post, and as it happens, it was exactly two years ago, not long after I started blogging. And, since this day is as raw and icy as it is, a little something WARM to cozy up to. The picture is not the golden-beaded, broth-yellow and carrot-gold of the real thing, but tis enough. 'Twill serve.

  1. Sometimes I wish I lived in your head. I just never romanced Dumplins like that but now I kinda do. It's going to be 17 degrees tonight way down here in South Texas and I can't imagine what you must have. I really could use a good bowl of dumplins, a raw onion and some cornbread. Stay by the fire...Love you

  2. Actually, Darlin'---you DO live in my heart---will that do? And you have a tendency to increase the smarts in my head, just by your witty presence.

    We've got a tee-ninecy pot---cutest little heavy red fellow, a Kitchen Aid cousin of the Le Creuset---full of Mother's Fridgerator Soup, with little just-fried oniony meatballs stirred in. Cornbread comes out in ten minutes, and the five huge country ribs off the grill leftovers on Sunday night are in a foil packet in the oven with Baby Ray's, a big chopped onion, and lotsa cloves of smushed garlic and some brown sugar. It can be pulled pork or a melted-tender rib, take your pick.

    We've got you BEAT on temp---23, but the pink and blue colors hovering over us since daylight---those look tres dangereuse.

    It just WON'T move ON! The ice clickety on the bushes outside the kitchen window sounds like rice falling---for hours. And even the guys didn't make a dent in the snow on the walk and steps---it's frozen solid.

  3. I'm sorry you are having such miserable weather. But, sounds like you have just the right prescription for dealing with it. "Take one bowl of dumplins,(or is it soup), a big piece of cornbread, and a tall glass of tea. You should not need to call me in the morning!"

  4. Hi Rachel, Your nasty weather has hit us today. When the wind comes down through the mountains it is such a scary sound. Cheri' just stares and listens when we take her outside to do her business. Thank goodness for the overhang on our fifth wheel so we can stand under it for cover. She does not like the rain.

    I love to make chicken and dumplings. These actually look a lot like mine. Mmmmmm. A good idea for tomorrow. Just thinkin!

  5. Next to mashed potatoes, dumplins are my favorite "comfort food," perhaps because they conjure up visions of my grandmother in her kitchen. I do believe she made the best dumplins in the whole wide world.

    Hope you don't have to venture out in the cold today. Stay warm and hibernate while you can. Spring IS going to be here soon.

  9. It is a miserable 27 degrees and snowing and sleeting here today. I have just put on a pot of chile for dinner as the chicken and dumplings I made last night will be finished for lunch today. If it doesn't hurry up and get to be spring all of this comfort food is going to make me fat!

  10. I just finished a bowl of leftover spaghetti and meatballs and garlic bread. It was good and I'm full. But I'd make room for some of your dumplin's, if I had 'em!
