  1. Rachel, it's eight o'clock in the morning and my mouth is watering after reading your "Preacher Food" list. One thing I noticed you overlooked is Macaroni and Cheese -- a staple casserole found at any southern gathering. And whether it was "made from scratch," or from the little Kraft's box, the person who brought it will always take home an empty dish.

  4. JANIE---I added the mac & cheese---I know how much it is enjoyed. I was kinda going by the precept that Preacher Food is way above the usual dinner and supper dishes in perceived elegance.

    Nail---Pretzel Salad---I'll be posting that one tomorrow. It's also the first three layers for Sawdust Salad, so that one will come, as well.

    And Indy---I'll post that one soon. I don't know if that was the title on the recipe (From some magazine of the time) or if we took one look and said that. It's the classic chocolate layer, sugar and cocoa sprinkled over, dry, then boiling water over all. As it bakes, the cake rises through the sauce and thickens it into a luscious between-pudding-and-syrup.

  5. O, my goodness, I just went back and checked the list...if it was summer...there would always be fried okra! And sliced tomatoes, of course.

    I can just about taste some of those delicious dishes. I wonder if i will ever taste sweet potatoe casserole with pecans and brown sugar on top as wonderful as my Mom made.
