THINK OF HAPPY THOUGHTS AND FLYYY . . .

wikiphoto

Have you ever seen a white-haired, white-bearded gentleman floating along through life, his feet not touching the ground?

‘Tis the Season, I think, but the Reason is the thing.

We went to Sweetpea’s Thanksgiving program and feast at school, sitting in an expectant hush as the big hall windows revealed a lively line of tall Pilgrim hats, construction-paper feathers, tiny demure lady-caps and aprons, and brown-fringed vests.   They entered singing a Turkey song, keeping up the refrain all the way around the auditorium, up onto the stage, and finishing with a flourish of stuffed-brown-bag-on-a-stick drumsticks.

The songs went on, with a little skit, small facts and interesting items about the First Thanksgiving, with all small participants doing their best---reciting or clapping or jumping about the stage, as the moment required.

The Moment of the program, the very pinnacle to remember, came last.   The teacher walked down the line with a small microphone, holding it gently before each little face, and asking, “And what are YOU most thankful for?”

Answers ranged from “Mommy” and Daddy”---quite a few of those, to “My Family” and others, including one that I didn’t hear, but which brought a wave of laughter through the audience.

Way down on the very end stood Sweetpea, awaiting her turn, and when the question came, she pondered a tiny moment, peeking up from beneath her little Pilgrim-lady cap, then in the softest tiny voice, leaned in and said, “Ganner.”
I swear, Y'all.   I'm gonna have to tether that man to the ground like a Macy float.

  1. I can see him now! Yeah, you had better have a HEAVY weight on him for quite a while, or he will be gone in the ozone.

  3. Oh Rachel, This is the sweetest share. Only you can tell it in such a fun and charming way. What a priceless thing for Sweatpea to say. I agree...get a rope. HA!

We sure do have a busy week planned for Thanksgiving and my nephew's marriage celebration. This nephew is so special to all of us. He LOVES family gatherings so much. This party will make him and his sweet new wife so happy. What I didn't say, is our cabin and home will be overflowing with house guests. It all starts on Tuesday and will last through the weekend. My nephew lives in St. Louis, MO. Fun times and a real blessing.

I hope your Thanksgiving will be filled with love and special blessings Rachel.
    Love, Jeanne

  4. LOL Cute! I am going to love seeing Emily when she finally gets to that age. Roman too. He is only four months old and Emily is just four..but the day will come. Again. I can't wait.
Wish you had taken a snapshot or two. Not easy to get them during those times..I know. My snapshots are mostly in my head of when mine were all tiny. I hope I get another chance.

  5. Hi Rachel, thank you for your Thanksgiving comment. It was just as you pictured. We are so blessed.

The party for my nephew was more than we expected. Loving family and a crowd of 30 plus family members. My 'only' brother and family were here and we hardly ever see them. What a blessing.

I hope your Thanksgiving was a wonderful day my dear blogging friend and a blessing as well.
    Love, Jeanne

  7. Everyone should have a Ganner in their life. And every Ganner should have a Sweetpea!

  9. Good morning Rachel, Thank you for sharing your lovely Christmas morning fun your family has as well as your Christmas meals when you have loved ones all around. I love that it allows you to snack on good eats and enjoy the gifts in the mornings and that the little ones share getting the Christmas table settings ready. My friend Dana does the same thing with her grands. They make the place mats and her table is a thing of love and beauty. I am sure yours is the same.

Our fancy breakfasts started when my mom and dad started to come to our home for Christmas breakfast and then go to another sister for dinner. You know I took extra care setting the table etc. because of my parents. Because of them I started a tradition. this was the way it was for all the years my children were raised. I miss those many years so much but life goes on...as it should.

Blessings to you and yours always.

  10. Just loved it. Aren't children the best....they build you up when you're down and plant you a leveller every so often! So thanks for sharing

  12. Truly enjoyed my visit today and your nice post. I have not heard of but one lady with my name, and she spelled it differently. Wish I had sense enough when younger to ask my mother how she came up with it. I do get a lot of comments about it. Glad you dropped by today.
