TALK ABOUT A DERBY!!

I've long loved the Kentucky Derby---the sunshine, the roses, the infectious humor/style of the those hats-to-challenge-Ascot, the scent-of-the-mint in those sweaty julep cups, camaraderie  and the great energy and thunder of those muscles and hooves.   I still watch that sweet video from decades ago, of the baby colt and his Mama already discussing the ROSES---I usually have a few sweet tears for that one.

Today, I ventured into a blog heretofore unknown to me from Linda's Link Party and to me, it has some of what blogging should be about---Home, Family History, Hospitality, and an evocative hand on the pen to set the stage so beautifully.   I'd missed looking in on the Derby on Saturday, and my first glimpse of a new site this morning  was mesmerizing  and captivating and I hope you'll look in on this wonderful telling of a FIRST in racing history, and the lovely hospitality of the writer.

    1. YES!! The first picture captivated---I thought it might be a foul like several years ago, but the brothers and the finish line is an image for Sports Illustrated Photo of the Century. And the blogger is a wonderful hostess, I see, with a table of such familiar things from all my life of catering in the South, and another ten years up here. Her descriptions are lovely, and so evocative of Old Times in my life---such a nice boon with the photo itself.

    1. You know, we live just an hour from there, and always meant to GO---I was joking about needing a hat, and Chris, who owned probably twenty he used for photo props, misunderstood my descriptions of such elegance and whimsy, came home with a Bright Red Cartwheel which might have done justice to a shop in Haight-Ashbury in the 70s.

  4. Virginia, Thank you for joining our small number, and for all your looking-in and chiming in and for your sweet comments. I just by accident this day followed your breadcrumbs over to And Then We All Had Tea---thank you SO much for the signpost to Marie's charming blog. I just dived right into that first poem with tears in my eyes, and just lost count of Time with all the rest of her prose and the poems.

I found much in common with this soul of that Faraway Paradise that I reckoned for in my childhood---Anything farther North in that sweep up the New England path, and Nova Scotia was sort of a Grail location, still frozen in time with Anne Shirley and leg-of-mutton sleeves. My hot South raising just latched on to that atmosphere, until I could almost conjure the AIR of the place some nights in Spring when the soft breeze through my windowscreen channeled the midnight wail of the Northbound train.

What a lovely find on such a sunny May Day!! (And my covet of a MAYPOLE all those years resulted in my begging bits of quilt scraps, cutting and tying or stitching them together, and creating the FIRST and only ravelly, too-short, tacks-in-a-borrowed clothesline prop that our town of young ruffians had ever seen. I was ten, and made a wish as we tangled ourselves an danced and laughed through the afternoon---one year later to the DAY---my one and only Baby Sis was born).

What a fabulous new friend to visit---Thank You!!
